Eat Right Before a Workout

If you're trying to get fit or reach new training goals, it is important that you know that what you eat is just as important as your physical activity. Eating the right food can provide you with the energy and strength to make it through a tough training session successfully. In order to get the most out of your workouts, we here at Athletic Republic in Santa Ana have some useful tips to help you choose the right meals before you train.

The Right Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates are often seen as a bad choice when trying to get fit, but there are some that are actually very good for your training sessions. Carbohydrates are a great option before entering a tough workout. They can give you the energy and strength to make it through your workout without feeling fatigued or light headed. Something as simple as whole grain toast with your favorite type of nut butter can provide you with extra energy. Adding banana slices to your toast is another great way to incorporate more carbohydrates.

Pack in Some Protein

Balance out your carbohydrate intake with proteins. While some proteins may take longer to breakdown than carbohydrates, they will help with muscle recovery after your workout. You can drink a fruit smoothie before your workout, but be sure to add in some nuts or some peanut butter. Egg whites are also a great pre-workout protein that won't make you feel bloated or sluggish. Remember the maintaining your body hydrated before, during and after your workout is imperative.
