As an athlete, it’s important to explore different ways to push your body to that next level. Whether or not running is your sport, it’s certainly a great idea to get out there and run every once in a while. If you’re not a runner, per say, then perhaps you’ll need a bit of coaching before you get out there and run a marathon. That is what Athletic Republic in Santa Ana would like to assist you with today. Stay tuned for a few great tips on how you can train for a marathon. ;

Let us begin with the basics. Figure out your motivation for running this marathon and keep that clear in your mind throughout the training process. ;

Next, you want to establish goals in the training process. Once you see where you are at the time you begin the training, set goals for yourself by the time you’ve finished the marathon, other than just finishing the marathon. ;
  • If necessary, set weight loss goals
  • Definitely set time goals

Ensure that you are prepared to wear the right stuff on marathon day. ;
  • This is not just about the right shoes, but they’re definitely an important aspect of your gear. It is not advisable to get a new pair of shoes to break in on marathon day, but have a pair of shoes that you’ve been running with for at least a week or so, and that you know are great shoes.
  • You should also ensure that you clothes you are running with will not chafe or become uncomfortable during the run, again it’s advisable not to get new clothes for the race, but go with something tried and true that you’ve already run in successfully ;

Eat to win. ;
  • Carbohydrates are the most important fuel for runners-during training, 65% of your calories should come from them
  • You should have at least 10% of your calories coming from protein
  • And another 20% from unsaturated fat
