Summer Training Tips to Keep You Motivated

If the summer season tends to negatively affect your motivation when it comes to training, there are plenty of ways you can fight back. Weather it's the blazing sun, scorching temperatures, or anything else, use these tips to keep yourself motivated to train.

Stick to the Shade

The summer season tends to be the warmest of the year. Temperatures can reach extreme highs and the sun can be unbreakable. Because of this, it's very important that you complete your training sessions in the shade. If you of your training indoors, you should be perfectly fine. However, if any of your training sessions include outdoor runs or biking, be sure you can duck out into the shade as you train. Exposing yourself to the sun and heat can cause you to overheat and even burn. Before heading outdoors for a training session, plan ahead and consider how much shade is available. You may want to consider an alternate route if there is no way to get out of the sun in your usual spot.

Keep Yourself Hydrated

Staying hydrated is important during any training session, but because summer temperatures can cause you to sweat more, you will be losing fluids more quickly. This can lead to dehydration and other issues much faster than during other times of the year. o counteract this, drink more water than you usually do. Drinking plenty of water will ensure your muscles are able to work well an can help you avoid cramps.  Don't wait until you're thirsty to drink water either. In fact, it's best to start drinking water before your training session.

Pay Attention to Timing

During the winter you may be advised to work out during the warmest times of the day,  but this is the opposite during the summer. You may have adjust your normal training schedule and train early in the morning before the sun comes out or in the evening as the sun goes down. This is when temperatures will be more bearable, making your training session more enjoyable. It also helps to check the weather ahead of time so that you can be sure the conditions will be ideal for training. You may need to make some adjustments to your training schedule or routine, but that doesn't have to be hard. Wear the Proper Attire

The attire you wear as you train can make a huge difference, especially in the summer. You want to be sure you're wearing attire that fits properly and that is made out of breathable fabrics. This will help you keep cool even on the hottest of days. Tight fitting work out gear is perfect for the season because it can help reduce friction and chafing. Cover your body if you plan to train outdoors because you definitely don't want to get sunburned. A hat is also a great option that will keep the sun off your face and help keep you cool.

Put on Sunscreen

Sunscreen is a must during the summer, especially during outdoor training sessions. Being exposed to the sun is no good because the UV radiation can lead to serious side effects beyond just annoying sunburns. Whether you're in the direct sunlight or in the shade, sunblock is a must. Don't forget to reapply for the best results.

Pace Yourself

The summer heat is something to take seriously, so don't start your training sessions at full speed. Start slow, get your muscles ready, and pace yourself. Don't be alarmed if you notice a drop in your performance since this is often caused by the heat. Don't do more than you can handle and avoid pushing yourself too hard.
